DIAGRAM at Google HQ for Global Summit on Accessibility and Usability
Gerardo Capiel, VP of Engineering at Benetech, was an invited speaker this month at Google’s Global Summit on Accessibility and Usability. The two-day event opened with talks by Vint Cerf and Ray Kurzweil. The 60 or so assembled guests, including several DIAGRAM community members, came from engineering, academia, and leading community and advocacy organizations to discuss the future of accessibility. It was a perfect platform to present the Accessibility Metadata Project, whose aim is to allow anyone to locate accessible books, images, videos, apps, and more by doing a simple Google search. Gerardo’s talk, “Discovering Accessible Resources via Schema.org” was part of a panel that included Dan Davies of AbleLink Technologies, Christian Volger of Gallaudet University, and Volker Sorge of the University of Birmingham. This was an excellent opportunity for DIAGRAM community members to provide feedback directly to Google’s engineering team and participate in a global dialog with others who are collectively shaping the future of accessibility.
