DIAGRAM at EDUPUB
Submitted by Madeleine Rothberg
DIAGRAM community members George Kerscher, Gerardo Capiel, Geoff Freed, Madeleine Rothberg, Mark Hakkinen, TV Raman, and Kyle Keane attended the EDUPUB conference on October 29-30 in Boston, MA. The event was organized by Pearson and the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) with cosponsors IMS Global and the W3C, and corporate sponsors from several digital publishing companies. The goal of the forum was to generate action plans for the next year of development of educational ebooks by exploring four themes: Educational Interoperability, Rich and Interactive Content, Accessibility, and Production Workflows. Geoff, Kyle, Raman, and Gerardo showed demos and other presentations, and Madeleine, Mark, and George were part of a panel on critical goals for accessibility in educational ebooks. Goals agreed to include integrating accessibility metadata into EPUB 3, creating a repository of accessible open-source widgets, improving accessibility for assessments embedded in ebooks, and more. Slides from the talks, and video of the entire event, will be available online in the future. See Gerardo Capiel’s presentation with book, image and video examples on LRMI and accessibility metadata for Schema.org.
