Digital Publishing Interest Group Meets in China
Benetech’s VP of Engineering, Gerardo Capiel was in Shenzen, China this month attending the very first face-to-face meeting of the W3C’s Digital Publishing Interest Group, co-chaired by Markus Gylling (IDPF and DAISY Consortium) and Madi Weland Solomon (Pearson). Gerardo presented to the SVG Working Group on the need for SVG images to be easily reusable within a document and across documents without the need for the HTML image element, which limits much of the advanced capabilities of SVG. The SVG Working Group recommended that iframes be used to inline the same SVG graphic across multiple locations in a document, and Gerardo will be discussing this further with DIAGRAM Center partners and others. For a detailed discussion see Gerardo’s blog post on the W3C web site. You can also read Ivan Herman’s summary of this meeting, which was posted on November 15, 2013. The next in-person meeting of this DPIG will take place October 27-31, 2014 in Santa Clara, CA.
