DIAGRAM Working Group Updates
With an even greater focus on communities under our new award, we are more excited than ever to convene the DIAGRAM working groups and start mapping out how we will leave our mark over the next five years. The groups are already assessing the needs of the field and how we can address them.
- The Content Working Group is looking to further expand both the Accessible Image Sample Book and DIAGRAM Image Description Guidelines to include even more examples and media types. The group will also endeavor to create a cheat sheet for publishers on how to make their content braille ready.
- The relatively new 3D Printing Standards Working Group are working hard to define which areas of 3D printing for education are problematic, what are the characteristics of a good 3D printed object, what has been done in the field and what needs to be done. They will then begin to consolidate that information, document and advise on how and where to test if an object is good, and develop industry standards for the creation of 3D objects conducive to accessible education.
- The Tools Group is continuing their work with the Math Support Finder and are in the process of advising on recommendations for further implementation, as well as content for a Math Code Sprint that will be held as a pre-session at CSUN this March.
- The Standards Working Group will be presenting a draft of the technical note they created addressing what’s missing in WCAG at the upcoming IDPF meeting in February. They are also working on an epub 3.1 update adding new metadata for accessibility and applying to schema.org to add new accessibility metadata for Accessmode as well as new accessibility features.
With the new award just beginning and the First Quarter meetings finishing up, there is sure to be no shortage of news and updates. Stay tuned!
