DIAGRAM Out and About: October Updates
On Friday October 19 at 11:15 a.m. eastern time, Larry Goldberg and Geoff Freed will take the podium at the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), one of the oldest and most important standards organizations in the United States, with leaders of over 70 organizations in the fields of publishing, libraries, IT, and media serving as its voting members. NISO fosters the development and maintenance of standards that facilitate the creation, persistent management, and effective interchange of information so that it can be trusted for use in research and learning. An introduction to evolving authoring and display technologies, including mobile devices and e-readers, that provide reading experiences for people with print disabilities. The presentation will include discussion of new reading systems, publishing tools and practices, the EPUB 3 standard, “smart graphics,” best publishing practices, and the Content Model for accessible images. Also discussed will be Federal and state requirements for accessible textbooks and relevant public policy initiatives.
