March 2013 DIAGRAM Training Update
Registration for Next DIAGRAM Webinar Now Open
In the 4th webinar in our 2012-2013 series, we turn to the practical matter of how to integrate accessible images into ebooks and digital talking books (DTBs). If you are involved in the production of ebooks, you won’t want to miss this overview of how to make sure the books you create are both accessible and discoverable. Bryan Gould and Geoff Freed of the National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM) at WGBH will present “Best Practices for Authoring Accessible Images” on Thursday April 25 at 9:30 a.m. Pacific time, 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

Included in the free seminar will be brief demonstrations of the following authoring tools:
- Dolphin EasyProducer
- OpenOffice Writer
- Adobe Acrobat
- Adobe InDesign
- iBooks Author
We’ll also demonstrate what a described image looks like, and sounds like, when integrated into an accessible e-book or DTB.
Past DIAGRAM Training Webinars Available
DIAGRAM’s training webinar series during this 2012-2013 program year began with a deep dive into the tools and techniques for making math accessible to those with print disabilities. In our second episode, we provided concrete tips and examples for image describers to tackle complex images such as maps, graphs, maps, and STEM images. Our third episode concentrated on the variety of accessible image options that are available, including tactile graphics, and an important demonstration of the end-user’s experience accessing image descriptions in a variety of document formats and devices.
