New Faces at Benetech for DIAGRAM Projects

We are most fortunate to have some impressive new team members joining us recently who will make an impact on DIAGRAM initiatives.

Disha Vora is an applied anthropology graduate student who is working on her master’s thesis this year by helping Benetech get a better understanding of the emerging content creator spaces and the challenges and opportunities for accessibility. To that end, she will be conducting in-depth interviews with players in that space. Consideration of image accessibility will be part of her work.

Abigail Rekas is a Ph.D. candidate and Marie Curie Fellow at the National University of Ireland, Galway. A legal scholar, her research focuses on the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Article 30, which guarantees that intellectual property law will not be an unreasonable or discriminatory barrier to access to culture. Among her other work at Benetech she will be looking into the legal implications of crowdsourcing image descriptions.

Sue-Ann Ma is Benetech’s newest Product Manager, and will be leading the development and oversight of Poet. Sue-Ann joined us following a stint as a product manager at Better Chinese, where she launched a comprehensive iPad-based curriculum and digital textbooks for learning Chinese. She also spent three years as a Business Analyst and Project Manager at Polo Ralph Lauren’s Asia headquarters in Hong Kong, working on cross-functional systems integration projects.

Welcome Disha, Abby, and Sue-Ann!
